ABOUT THE COURSE: “Helping Families Succeed During Divorce” an interactive four (4) hour online co-parenting education program presented by Forensic Evlauation Services Center in cooperation with the Butler County Domestic Relations Court. The classes are designed to engage the parents in informative and useful information about helping their children cope with divorce.  Completion of the entire course is mandatory for all parents who are petitioning for a divorce or dissolution with children through Domestic Relations Court.  Spouses are not permitted to attend the same online session of the class.

The course is designed to help participants understand the impact of the divorce experience. Part 1 looks at the divorce experience from the adult/parent point of view. This includes the decision to divorce, the stages of the divorce process, the emotions of divorce, and the psychological tasks of divorce for adults. Part 2 focuses on talking to children about divorce, how children of different age groups typically respond to the losses, and when and where to go to get help for their children. Other topics covered include dealing with changing roles, overcoming roadblocks to cooperative parenting, and effective communication skills.

PROGRAM ENROLLMENT: The DR628 form is the notice requiring parties with children to attend Parent Education Class upon filing a complaint for divorce or dissolution (with children) with the Clerk of Courts. Parties must register for the course within fifteen (15) days of filing the divorce petition.  The class must be completed prior to the final hearing.

PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE THEIR DR CASE NUMBER TO SCHEDULE THE CLASS. Participants will be provided with the date and time of the class or classes they will be attending online. They will receive by mail or email a confirmation of their online classes.  Once registered, parent names, DR case numbers, and scheduled dates/times will be forwarded to the Domestic Relations Court. Participants will be required to sign in online on time and then complete questions and activities during both sessions to verify attendance.   Upon successful completion of the course, and the survey at the end of Part 2, participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.  A copy of the certificate will be forwarded to the Court for verification purposes.
